When your plans go out the window

Nap time is still golden in our house.

And during the week, part of my working day relies on it. ‍

Which means that I always set aside a few tasks specifically for that time. Ones that can be adapted and aren’t totally essential, but still things that I really really want to get done.

But just now my son is going through one of those unsettled stages. I haven’t checked the App for a while, but I suspect it’s a developmental leap.

Which means that a lot more of my attention is going to settling him and more of my time is going to cuddles. 🥰

It's fab on many fronts - except that I don’t get done the things that I had intended.

And it leaves me with this nagging frustration and my productivity bucket feeling a bit empty.

I know that it’s easy to let it build. My work day feels incomplete, the house feels messier than usual, it’s harder to focus and be present in the moment.

And mostly I can stop it there, but I also know that it can creep into everything feeling unfair, that I have no control over my own time, that it’s impossible to make any progress.

It's something that I see coming up for my clients again and again. They often describe it as ‘failing’ which breaks my heart a little bit.

And so I want you to know that:

  • productivity is not about being busy all of the time

  • productivity does not define your worth

  • productivity can be whatever you want it to be!

If you too have a thing about productivity then tune into this podcast EPISODE where I'm talking about:

  • what I think productivity is

  • what it’s like to not feel productive

  • what productivity could be instead

Come JOIN US in the Facebook Community THE BALANCING ACT FOR WORKING MUMS to talk about this some more.
